Vellarikka Pulinkari | Vellarikka Manga Curry

half of medium sized Kerala cucumber / Vellarikka, peeled, cleaned & cut into medium thick pieces
2 green chillies,slit lengthwise
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp kashmiri chilly powder
salt as required
2 cups water
1 sour raw mango, peeled & cut into medium pieces

To grind

1 heaped cup grated coconut
pinch of turmeric
1/4 tsp chilly powder
12 tsp cumin seeds
2 shallots
1-1.5 cup water

To temper

1-2 tsp coconut oil
1 dried red chilly
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
2 sprig curry leaves

In a curry pot, bring together chopped cucumber, turmeric powder, chilly powder, slitted green chillies, salt and water mentioned in the particular section.Cook this till cucumber get cooked.Add chopped mangoes to this and cook till it’s cooked well. You may reduce heat to medium doing so.Meanwhile grind the coconut and ingredients mentioned to a fine paste adding enough water.1/2 to 3/4 will be enough.Remaining water you can clean the mixer jar and pour to the curry.Bring this to boil and once thickened, you are done.Heat coconut oil in another small pan and splutter the ingredients mentioned in the temper section.Sprinkle over the curry.Serve with rice.

On another note, for the first time ever I have won a give away at Merry Tummy hosted by Shweta Agarwal for my Upside down Peach and Saffron cake. Here’s what she has gifted me with..!
