Mutta Pathiri


1 cup all purpose/maida flour
1 egg
1/4 tsp salt
1-1.5 cups thin coconut milk

To serve

1 cup thick coconut milk
sugar as required


In a large bowl bring together the all pupose flour,egg and salt.Mix this and start pouring thin coconut milk to prepare the batter.The batter should be of dosa consistency.Now heat mutta pathiri chatty (clay pan-you get this in Kerala) and pour a ladle of batter .Close with a lid and reduce the heat to medium.Wait for 3-4 minutes and open the lid.Slowly remove pathiri from the pot and continue the same process with the remaining batter.Serve along with sugar and coconut milk.

*The amount of heat you give the pan is decisive in mutta pathiri making.Once the pan is hot you may reduce to medium or low medium.This will ensure your pancakes cook perfect.

    I have a pathiri pan at home, which belonged to umma and I haven't used it yet. The kids love this and I guess I have to push myself to make it. The challenge is getting those little holes on them and nicely cooked center! Thanks for sharing this dear… it is called ottada or pola towards our side… 🙂
